Extend Microsoft Office 2010's free trial period to 180 days

If you've been using the 30-day trial version of Microsoft Office 2010, here's a nice tip for you: the testing period can be extended for up to six months. Much like Windows, the popular productivity suite contains a so called rearm function that gives you 30 extra days to activate the program. The command can be used up to five times, and if used at the end of each 30-day grace period, you can run Office 2010 for up to 180 days without entering an activation key.

The procedure is rather simple, too -- just open a command prompt window as administrator and run a file named "ospprearm.exe" which should be located in %installdir%\%Program Files%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform, where %installdir% is "C:" on most machines and %Program Files% will be the Program Files (x86) folder If you installed the 32-bit edition of Office 2010 on a 64-bit operating system.

As an alternative to the above steps, there's also a free utility available here to extend your trial period with the click of a button. The rearm feature is aimed at enterprise administrators who use a single copy or image, to deploy a supported operating system and accompanying software on hundreds or thousands of PCs. Nevertheless, the "trick" has been widely publicized online to regular home users and Microsoft seems okay with it.

Add sound to almost every event in Windows XP

You need to turn on the Windows default sound scheme before you'll be able to hear them.

To turn on the Windows XP default sound scheme, follow these directions:

1. Single-click the Start menu.
2. Single-click the Control Panel.
3. Single-click the Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices icon.
4. Single-click the Sounds and Audio Devices icon or the text labeled "Change the sound scheme."
5. Make sure you're on the Sound tab and locate the pull-down menu under Sound scheme.
6. Select the Windows Default option and press Apply. Windows will ask you if you want to save the previous sound scheme. Since there wasn't a sound scheme already loaded, just choose No.

If you look under the text labeled "Program events," you'll be able to sample your new sounds or customize them with your own. Read Customize Events Sounds if you'd like to learn how to do this yourself.

Switch mouse buttons

1. Click on Start,

2. Choose Control Panel,

3. In new open window double click on Mouse icon,

4. In Mouse window you will see "Button configuration",

5. Check or uncheck "Switch primary and secondary buttons"

Note: If it is uncheck you are using left mouse button like primary and right like secondary, but if it is check you are using right mouse button like primary and left like secondary.

6. After you check or uncheck that field press OK.

Remove all drives in Windows XP

With this trick you will remove all drives from My Computer (Floppy, Hard Disk, DVD Drive...).

1. Start --> Run,

2. In Run window type regedit and find next: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer

3. Here make new "DWord Value" and give him name NoDrives.

4. Now just change his Value on 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal)

Connect two computer trough modem

• Go in Control Panel and find Network Connections,
• In new Window go to File and choose New Connection and click Next in window which you did open,
• Choose Set up an advanced connection and click Next,
• Choose option Accept Incoming connection and click Next,
• Choose device which you will use for connection (Modem) and click Next,
• Choose Allow virtual private connection and click Next,
• Choose option (button) Add... and in User name and Password write guest and click Next,

If you don't want that modem turn-on when phone ring turn-off all devices (recommend) and turn-on them only when you expecting call from other computer.

• Go to File and choose option New Connection and click Next,
• Choose Connect to internet and click Next,
• Choose Setup my connection manually and click Next,
• Choose Connect using Dial-up modem,
  
• Write name of connection and click Next, write phone number and click next, write guest for user name and for password and click Next.
• Turn-on option Add a shortcut... and click Next,
• After this activate connection which you did made on computer which is calling and on another computer there should be mark and activate device which receiving call.

Change color while you Logon

1. Click Start and choose Run,

2. Type regedit,

3. Go to
HKEY_USERS \ .DEFAULT \ Control Panel \ Colors and find item Background,

4. Right mouse Click on empty space at desktop and choose Properties. Click on Appearance and than Advanced button,

5. Click on background. Click on Color 1 and choose Other...

6. Colors which you see under background and regedit program matches to colors under Red, Green and Blue. When you find color which you want write her Value.

7. Go in regedit and double click on background item and write number which you did wrote and click Apply (OK),

Resize several images at one GO.

It is possible to resize several images at the same time without passing by third software, thanks to a functionality integrated into the operating system Windows XP and to your customer of email.

Set a program to run automatically when inserting a Pendrive

Using autorun, you can set a program to start up automatically when you connect the drive to a computer. You can also use the same script for a data CD-ROM. Note that some computers have autorun disabled for security purposes.

Open up notepad and paste the following script:

Make sure you replace filename with the full path to the file. For example, a file called program.exe in a folder called “programs” on the thumb drive would be /programs/program.exe

Follow the following steps

1. Open notepad.exe, type “del c:windowsprefetchntosboot-*.* /q” (without the quotes) & save as “ntosboot.bat” in c:
2. From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “gpedit.msc”.
3. Double click “Windows Settings” under “Computer Configuration” and double click again on “Shutdown” in the right window.
4. In the new window, click “add”, “Browse”, locate your “ntosboot.bat” file & click “Open”.
5. Click “OK”, “Apply” & “OK” once again to exit.
6. From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “devmgmt.msc”.

Optimize Firefox

Limit the use of RAM:
If you use Firefox took a lot of memory, you can limit the amount of RAM to use. Again, go to about: config, filter "browser.cache" and select "browser.cache.disk.capacity. Is set to 50000, but you can reduce it, depending on the memory you have. Try 15000 if you have between 512 and 1 GB of RAM.

Remove the close button or move the tabs:
Click the button accidentally closing the tab in Firefox? You can move or delete them, again through about: config. Edit the "browser.tabs.closeButtons. Here is the meaning of each value:

• 0: Display a close button only on the active tab
• 1: (Default) Displays the button to close all tabs.
• 2: Remove the close button.
• 3: (For users of Firefox 1.x), shows the close button at the bottom of the tab bar.

1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit enter. You will get a warning about changing settings but we are not doing anything too radical so it is OK. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 8. This means it will make 8 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Remove Hidden Softwares in XP

Suppose you want to remove a software that was not installed properly in first place itself

1. Find and edit the text file at c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf OR
   • Go to Windows folder
   • Find the Inf folder inside that
   • Search for the sysoc.inf file
2. Search for the word hide and remove it. Do NOT remove any other text from the line.
3. Now you can go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel
4. Select Add/Remove Windows Components and there you can find your unwanted software. Go ahead and Uninstall.

Here's how you can remove those shortcut arrows from your desktop icons in Windows XP.

1. Go to registry by clicking on Start menu -> run and type regedit
2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> lnkfile
   or
   Press CTRL+F and then at the search box type lnkfile and search.
3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.

You may need to restart Windows XP.

Send File to any Drive Or Folder In a Single Click

What if I tell you a trick that helps you to send a particular file anywhere you like in Windows XP without going to that particular place? Sounds interesting?

The process is simple. You can do that by providing more locations to Send To option that comes when you right click on a particular file. To do that,

1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\User_name\SendTo
   (where User_Name is your user name)
2. The folder will be filled with shortcuts to all the locations you find on your Send To context menu.
3. To remove an item from the Send To menu, delete the shortcut from the folder.

AND

1. To add an item to the menu, add a shortcut to the folder by highlighting the folder,
2. Choose File → New → Shortcut, and follow the subsequent instructions for creating a shortcut. The new setting will take effect immediately; you don't have to exit Windows Explorer for it to go into effect.

Let's say one fine morning you said, I will rename 'Recycle Bin' to 'Use Me' or 'Trash Can'. Can you do it? … Well, you are lucky this time. I will tell you how you can rename your recycle bin:

1. Go to registry by clicking on Start menu -> run
2. Type regedit
3. Go to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID/{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

4. Right click on default and click on Modify
5. Change the name of Recycle Bin to whatever you want.

Create Trouble For Your Friend!!!!!!!!!

This is one of the oldest trick but surely the nicest one!!!!!!
What this trick does is it restarts the PC every time you boot..........

Step 1: Open notepad and copy paste the following in to it

shutdown -s -t 00

Step 2: Save it as shutdown.bat.
Step 3: Copy this to pen drive and get access to the PC u wanna play with
Step 4 : On that PC copy the file to the following destination.
Start --> All Programs --> Start Up --> Paste it there...

Now its done .
Now Whenever your friend boots into his PC it will automatically restart again!!!!!!

Also u can play around by adding some warnings/caution message before PC restarts ...

For doing this change the shutdown.bat as follows

Kill Any Process from Command Prompt

I'm sure you are familiar with the traditional way to kill or end a process in Windows using Task Manager. This method is effective but not nearly as fun as killing a process in Command Prompt. Additionally, killing processes in Command Prompt provides much more control and the ability to end multiple processes at once.

All of this is possible with the TaskKill command. First, let's cover the basics. You can kill a process by the process ID (PID) or by image name (EXE filename).

Open up an Administrative level Command Prompt and run tasklist to see all of the running processes:

C:\>tasklist

In the example above you can see the image name and the PID for each process. If you want to kill the firefox process run:

C:\>Taskkill /IM firefox.exe /F

or

C:\>Taskkill /PID 26356 /F

The /f flag is kills the process forcefully. Failure to use the /F flag will result in nothing happening in some cases. One example is whenever I want to kill the explorer.exe process I have to use the /F flag or else the process just does not terminate.

If you have multiple instances of an image open such as multiple firefox.exe processes, running the taskkill /IM firefox.exe command will kill all instances. When you specify the PID only the specific instane of firefox will be terminated.

The real power of taskkill are the filtering options that allow you to use the following variables and operators.

Variables:

• STATUS
• IMAGENAME
• PID
• SESSION
• CPUTIME
• MEMUSAGE
• USERNAME
• MODULES
• SERVICES
• WINDOWTITLE

Operators:

• eq (equals)
• ne (not equal)
• gt (greater than)
• lt (less than)
• ge (greater than or equal)
• le (less than or equal)

"*" is the wildcard.

You can use the variables and operators with the /FI filtering flag. For example, let's say you want to end all processes that have a window title that starts with "Internet":

C:\>taskkill /FI "WINDOWTITLE eq Internet*" /F

How about killing all processes running under the Steve account:

C:\>taskkill /FI "USERNAME eq Steve" /F

It is also possible to kill a process running on a remote computer with taskkill. Just run the following to kill notepad.exe on a remote computer called SteveDesktop:

C:\>taskkill /S SteveDesktop /U RemoteAccountName /P RemoteAccountPassword /IM notepad.exe /F

To learn more about taskkill run it with the /? command just like any other Windows command.

Make XP use Fat32 Partitions of size larger than 32GB

I have found a way to trick WinXP into using Partitions bigger then 32GB. I have been using a 60GB Fat32 partition on WinXP for over 4 months now and I haven't had a single problem. This is how you do it.

1 get a Win98 boot disk
2 boot from boot disk and run Fdisk
3 partition the drive to what size you want up to 120GB
4 reboot the computer off of the Win98 boot disk
5 format the drive
6 boot the computer off of the WinXP CD
7 proceed to install the WinXP.
8 When WinXP ask you what partition to install to choose the disk you just formated it will give you an several option dealing with NTFS don't pay them any mind and choose the last option which is to install WinXP to current drive without making any changes. WinXp will proceed to install normally and you will have WinXP installed to a fully functional FAT32 Partition greater then 32GB. WinXP can use larger then 32GB partitions M$ intentionally limited the Fdisk portion WinXP to push people to the Realm of NTFS.
